Makassar, fkg.umi.ac.id – Indonesian Muslim University commemorates its 72nd anniversary with the theme "Excellent UMI: Measuring Potential, Strengthening Innovation, and Creating a World Class Islamic Campus." The commemoration which took place at the Al-Jibra Auditorium (23/6/2026) was an important moment to reflect on UMI's journey for more than seven decades in producing superior human resources and contributing to national development.
UMI's 72nd anniversary event was attended by university leaders, foundation administrators, academics, alumni, as well as various strategic partners and government elements. The series of activities began with an official opening, reading of the holy Koran, the chancellor's report, as well as remarks from various stakeholders who provided support for the development of UMI as a superior and globally competitive Islamic university.
One of the main agendas for this year's anniversary celebration is a Scientific Oration delivered by the Minister of Law of the Republic of Indonesia,Supratman Andi Agtas. His presence has its own meaning because he is one of the UMI alumni who has succeeded in making his mark at the national level. In his scientific oration, he shared his views on the nation's challenges and opportunities in the era of global transformation, while emphasizing the important role of universities in producing a generation with integrity, innovation and international competitiveness.
The momentum of UMI's 72nd anniversary was also marked by the launch of "UMI Connection", a strategic program which is part of strengthening UMI's international network through collaboration with Minjiang University, China. This program is expected to become a forum for collaboration in the fields of education, research, academic exchange, and human resource capacity development that is able to expand access for UMI's academic community to the global level.
Apart from that, on the same occasion, the UMI Waqf Foundation gave Service Appreciation to a number of lecturers, educational staff, outstanding students, and individuals who have shown extraordinary dedication and contribution to the progress of the university. This award is a form of respect for the spirit of service which has been an important part of UMI's long journey.
The series of activities also include signing collaborations with various partners, giving awards to educational figures and missionary figures, as well as appreciation to lecturers who have completed further studies and teaching staff who have served for decades. The entire agenda reflects UMI's commitment to building an academic culture that is superior, collaborative and oriented towards sustainable progress.
Entering its 72nd year, UMI continues to strengthen its steps towards becoming a world-class Islamic university through developing innovation, strengthening international networks, improving academic quality, and implementing Islamic values in every aspect of education. With the spirit of this year's anniversary, UMI is optimistic that it can continue to make real contributions to society, the nation and global civilization.
